My mechanic tells me that the rotors on my car have to be replaced because they are to thin, could this be true?

Yes brake rotors are built to dissipate heat to keep the brakes at an operating temp. If the rotor is to thin it won’t dissipate the heat properly and the brakes will over heat and the stopping power will decrease leaving you and your family with a braking system not working as well as it should. A good shop will always measure the rotors during a brake job and inform you if they need replaced.
