Why do I need to replace my water pump when I change my timing belt?

Many times the timing belt drives the water pump, so when changing the timing belt you are right at the water pump, and most timing belts get replaced at 90,000 to 110,000 miles the chances of that water pump lasting another 90,000 to 110,000 miles is very unlikely, so if the water pump fails you would have to pay all that labor again to get to the pump. As it turns out it’s much more cost effective to do it all at one time.
